User Role Change

Last night at Jujitsu Sempai JJ told me that upon his return from the great mouse hunt he checked the web site to see if we had anything new. We've been slacking so we don't. He did notice something that I hadn't which is that we've got some comment spam. I killed it all today and made a change to the user roles.

I created a new user role called "approved users" which we can set for the people we know. Approved users will be able to comment on posts and can now create forum topics and a couple of other things. "Authenticated users", those who have gone through the automatic authentication only will be able to post comments, but their comments will go to the moderation queue.

I'll set up g33kboy and King of the Impossible as moderators for the comments. If anyone else wants to volunteer just let me know.

It might take some time for admin work if we actually had some traffic.

The spam was in the form of comments on a post from a couple of weeks ago. In fact the original post wasn't even on the front page any longer.

I have been reading the site through Google Reader, so I have not noticed any content spam. Does this mean I have to log into the site and check what is going on? Man...work work work.

Thanks for keeping up on the admin of the site Gordon. Let me know what I need to do. I have not noticed any spam on my end. I login every time I come to the site however. Not sure if that makes a difference.
